The Best New Year’s Resolutions for Clean Laundry

What hopes and dreams are in your vision for this new year? Something as simple as staying on top of your laundry could be the difference between being stressed and being motivated.

Being organized in the small and mundane parts of your life can actually give you energy and motivation for the larger aspects of your life when you need it.

Here are some things you should plan for your clean laundry.

1. If you are behind, catch up!

Here is the starting line. If your clothes are a disorganized mess, now is the time to straighten things up. It might seem like a daunting task. But really, it shouldn’t take that much time. Set a timer so you have a realistic idea of how long it will take.

  • Get all your laundry together. Many of us are guilty of leaving laundry around the room, not in the hamper. For most, the idea is that the garment could be worn a second time before needing to be washed. That is great! It’s time to give your only-worn-a-little garments a designated place.

  • Separate your laundry into loads. You don’t want to overload your washing machine. You will also benefit from sorting your laundry based on their care requirements.

  • Set that timer. Now is not the time to continue the cycle of forgetting laundry and having to run the washing machine again. This will also help you determine how long it takes you to do a load. This is helpful info for staying on top of your laundry.

2. Do laundry every day.

This might seem like the opposite of efficiency. And, if you are only doing laundry for one, unnecessary. What we mean is to check on the status of your laundry and move forward with each load as needed.

If you make laundry an everyday chore, like brushing your teeth, it will be easier to stay ahead. When is the best time of day for you to take a moment for your laundry? Maybe you can check right before you head to work so the washing machine can run while you are away. Check in the evening to move this load on to dry.

3. Get realistic about how long it will take to do laundry.

Chances are, a load of laundry doesn’t take as long as you think it does. Here are some things you should time.

  • Getting a load in the washing machine.

  • Sorting laundry before starting a load.

  • Sorting laundry between the washing machine and dryer.

  • Putting away clean laundry.
