Laundry Hacks for Fall from Your Local Dry Cleaners

Fall is here! Well, for a few days at least. Arkansas is not known for its predictable weather patterns. Fall means we start getting our winter coats and puffy vests out of storage and head to the dry cleaners.

Is your coat clean and ready for fall? If your cold-weather garments need some freshening-up, bring them by your local dry cleaners. Hangers Cleaners is a dry cleaner with convenient locations, and free delivery, in central Arkansas.

Here a few tips to keep your fall laundry fresh:

  1. If you need to dry something fast, throw a dry towel in the dryer with the load. Wet garments are the last thing you want to wear in the cold weather.  Wet fabrics on any layer could even be hazardous to your health.

Retain your body heat and keep your core warm with moisture-wicking fabrics. Moisture-wicking fabrics are a great base layer.

Make sure the towel is clean. Then throw it in before starting the dryer.

  1. Zip up zippers but undo buttons. Zippers from your fall garments can damage other garments if their teeth are exposed. Make sure to zip everything up before throwing it in the laundry.

Buttons are different. They don’t have rigid edges (usually). If they are fastened during the wash the button will strain against the buttonhole. This will stretch it out. You may even end up losing a button.

  1. Warm up clothes before you put them on. This includes shoes. You can warm any garment up with a hair dryer. Or, throw your outfit for that day in the dryer while you get ready. You will be thankful for the warmth. In Arkansas, we don’t have very many days that require winter gear. However, for those few icy days when mittens are needed, it is important to keep them dry and clean.

You might even consider putting your mittens in the microwave — just use caution and consider what your mittens are made out of. After wearing your mittens try microwaving them to dry and warm them. A minute or more should do the trick.

  1. Got pilling? Sweaters and other fall garments pill over time. You can remove them without damaging the garment by using a razor or pumice stone. Just run the tool of your choice over the pilled area.
